  • Steve Freeman: A standout defensive back at Mississippi State and in the NFL, now a veteran NFL official.
  • Mike Justice: A veteran high school football coach with an impressive record of 297 wins and 98 losses, including four state championships.
  • Dexter McCluster: An Ole Miss All-SEC and All-American running back, receiver, and kick returner who enjoyed an eight-season NFL career.
  • Derrick Nix: A USM star running back and long-time college coach, currently on the coaching staff at Auburn.
  • Steve Rives: An accomplished high school and college basketball coach with over 700 career wins, known for his successful tenures at Jackson Prep and Delta State University.
  • Robbie Webb: A golf professional at Canton Country Club and Deerfield, who has mentored numerous junior golfers.
  • Mo Williams: The current head basketball coach at Jackson State University and a Murrah High School graduate, who went on to play basketball at Alabama and enjoyed a 13-year NBA career.

These exceptional athletes will be formally enshrined during the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Induction Weekend scheduled for August 1-2, 2025. Tickets for this prestigious event will go on sale in January 2025, with proceeds supporting the non-profit organization that operates the Hall of Fame.

Mo Williams: From High School Star to NBA All-Star

Mo Williams’ journey in basketball began at Murrah High School, where he was named Mr. Basketball during his senior year in 2001. His accolades included McDonald’s All-America and Parade Magazine third-team All-America honors. Williams then took his talents to the University of Alabama, where he played for two seasons. During his freshman year, he averaged over 13 points and four assists per game, earning the title of Sporting News National Freshman of the Year and Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2002. His contributions helped lead the Crimson Tide to an SEC regular season championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

After a successful college career, Williams declared for the NBA Draft and was selected by the Utah Jazz. Over the course of his 14-year NBA career, he averaged more than 13 points and nearly five assists per game. Williams had notable stints with several teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks and the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he played alongside LeBron James. His time with the Cavaliers was particularly memorable, as he helped the team achieve a league-best 66 wins in the 2008-09 season and earn a spot in the NBA Finals. Williams was selected to the NBA All-Star Game in his first season with Cleveland, solidifying his status as one of the league’s top players.

Coaching Career and Family Legacy

After his playing days, Williams transitioned into coaching, starting at Alabama State University, where he faced challenges but laid the groundwork for his coaching philosophy. In 2022, he returned to his hometown to take the helm at Jackson State University, where he continues to inspire young athletes.
