Welcome to Bolts Nation: A New Chapter Begins
Hey Bolts Nation!
I’m Benjamin Pierce, and I’m excited to introduce myself as the new beat writer for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Today marks my first day in this incredible role, and I can hardly contain my enthusiasm as I prepare to dive into the world of hockey and share stories that resonate with fans like you. Covering the NHL and working for the Lightning is not just a job for me; it’s a dream come true.
A Journey Rooted in Hockey
My journey began in West Salem, Wisconsin, where hockey was more than just a sport; it was a way of life. Growing up, I spent countless hours on the ice, fueled by the passion instilled in me by my father. He would wake up at the crack of dawn, around 5 a.m., to drive my brother and me to the local arena. There, he would hop on the Zamboni to clean the ice, giving us the perfect opportunity for our own morning skate. Those winter days spent at the rink, especially when school was closed due to snow, are some of my fondest memories.
The Dream of the NHL
Like many young players, I harbored dreams of making it to the NHL. While that dream didn’t materialize in the way I had hoped, my love for the game never waned. Instead, I found fulfillment in coaching youth hockey, sharing my passion for the sport with the next generation. This experience allowed me to combine my love for hockey with another passion of mine—writing and journalism. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to growing the sport and sharing its stories with fans.
A Decade of Storytelling
For the past ten years, I’ve worked for various newspapers across Wisconsin, honing my skills as a storyteller. I believe in the power of narratives that matter to people, and I strive to bring you the latest news and insights about the Lightning. My goal is to share stories that you won’t find anywhere else, stories that connect us as a community of fans. Whether it’s breaking news, player profiles, or behind-the-scenes glimpses, I’m committed to delivering content that keeps you engaged and informed.
Full Circle at Amalie Arena
One of the most exciting aspects of this opportunity is the connection I have with Amalie Arena. My first NHL game was held in this very arena during a family vacation when I was a child. The thrill of watching professional hockey for the first time left an indelible mark on me. To now be working in the same rink that offered me my first glimpse of the NHL is a surreal experience. It feels like a full-circle moment, and I can’t wait to share that journey with all of you.
A Tribute to Legends
As a young fan, I idolized players who left a lasting impact on the game. One of my first favorite NHL players was none other than former Tampa Bay captain Martin St. Louis. His skill, determination, and leadership inspired me and countless others. Now, as I step into this role, I carry that inspiration with me, eager to share the stories of current players and the legacy they are building.
A Commitment to Bolts Nation
I am genuinely thrilled for this opportunity with the Lightning. My promise to you is to bring high energy and unwavering passion for hockey every single day. I look forward to engaging with the fanbase, hearing your thoughts, and being part of one of the most storied franchises in the NHL. Your support and enthusiasm are what make this community so special, and I am eager to contribute to that spirit.
Let’s Get to Work!
As we embark on this journey together, I encourage you to stay safe and engaged. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work, bringing you the stories and insights that matter most. Here’s to an exciting season ahead, filled with unforgettable moments and a shared love for the game we all cherish. Let’s make this a season to remember, Bolts Nation!
